Register your infant and toddler products for safety

Monday, June 28, 2010

As of today, 18 types of durable infant and toddler products are required to have product recall registration cards. The cards (and alternately, online registration) will allow consumers who bought the products to get news of a related recall quickly, along with information about how to get the product fixed or replaced.

Consumer Action urges all purchasers of these products to register the items they buy. Parents who are concerned with protecting their privacy from marketers can rest assured that the regulations prohibit use of your personal information for any purpose other than safety notifications.

The cards must be included with full-size cribs and non-full-size cribs; toddler beds; high chairs, booster chairs, and hook-on chairs; bath seats; gates and other enclosures for confining a child; play yards; stationary activity centers; infant carriers; strollers; walkers; swings; and bassinets and cradles.

In six months, children's folding chairs, changing tables, infant bouncers, infant bath tubs, bed rails and infant slings, will also be required to include the recall registration card.

If you have problems with registering your products, contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and copy Consumer Action on your complaints. Report an incident or unsafe product online at https://www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident.aspx, call 800-638-2772 or send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
