Here’s why you should check your credit report

Credit report mistakes are the leading cause of complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Here’s how to check your report and fix mistakes if you find them.
File a dispute with each of the three credit bureaus. That’s because Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion don’t communicate with one another.
Include all evidence. Consider adding account statements or payment records, for example, to a dispute for debt that’s reported incorrectly.
Create a paper trail. Add a note to your credit report file if your dispute is denied.
